Spherecast differentiates between “suppliers”, “co-mans” and “in-house production”. All of those are called “Supplier” in Spherecast and are listed under Settings → Suppliers.

The three different types

  1. Suppliers
    1. These are vendors where we don’t hold inventory, and for which no dedicated location exists e.g. in your ERP. Mostly component / raw-material suppliers, or suppliers of turnkey products which don’t hold inventory for us. With those, we solely place purchase orders, no work orders.
  2. Co-manufacturers
    1. Vendors which have a warehouse tied to them, and where we (can) hold stock. We call those warehouses “Production site” and those are of type “Buffer”. Have work orders (and/or assembly builds) to model the production process here, plus purchase orders for the labor.
  3. In-house production
    1. Also have a warehouse tied to them, where we (can) hold stock. Only difference to co-mans is that they are marked as “In-house” in Spherecast. Only gets recommended work orders, no purchase orders (as we don’t buy from an in-house production)
